The company’s archives found information that this model, with a very complex and important clockwork in historical retrospective, was released by A. Lange & Sohne in a single copy. The watch had a number of serious complications, including a minute repeater, a chronograph with the “rattrapante” function, an eternal calendar, and an indicator of the lunar phases. The mechanism consisted of 833 parts. To repair this pocket watch, the A. Lange & Sohne team had to “delve” in the archives of the Saxon manufactory in search of technical documentation, since the mechanism included parts whose functions were not obvious at first glance, even for an expert. The missing parts needed to be restored, while no one knew how they looked from the beginning and what they were. After almost 9 years of reconstruction, the Grande Complication 42500 has such an excellent appearance and condition that the company and watchmaker Jan Silva, responsible for the restoration of these watches, decided to present them among the novelties of A. Lange & Sohne at the major international exhibition SIHH-2010. Despite all the problems and difficulties, as a result of 9 years of work, we have the opportunity to admire the completely restored masterpiece from A. Lange & Sohne at the beginning of the last century.
