Dubai Municipality tested gems at jewelry exhibition

Dubai's laboratory tested 12.5 thousand gems during a jewelry exhibition in the emirate at the request of visitors.

The Dubai Municipality Central Laboratory (DCL) tested nearly 12.5 thousand samples of diamonds and gemstones during the recent Dubai International Jewelery Week 2017, the municipality said in a statement.

DCL received 426 requests from visitors who purchased various items at the exhibition. Customers provided samples of ruby, sapphire, emerald and other precious and semiprecious stones.

“Our participation was carried out in three main areas: checking valuable collectibles, monitoring and checking the accuracy of electronic scales,” said DCL Director Amin Ahmad.

Abdullah Al Khosani, head of the legal support department for metrology, said that DCL’s involvement had a major impact on ensuring sellers and consumers rights and protecting the public from fraud and fraud to ensure the integrity of commercial transactions in Dubai.
