Abu Dhabi authorities detained a tourist for video filming at the airport

A tourist from the United States is fined $ 2.5 thousand and deported for filming at Abu Dhabi airport.

A tourist who was arrested for unlawful use of his mobile phone at the Abu Dhabi International Airport was fined 10 thousand dirhams ($ 2.7 thousand).

Officials said that Joseph Lee, a 59-year-old American who was arrested in the capital on the eve of Thanksgiving, will be deported.

The son of the detainee, who was traveling with his father, said that Joseph was videotaping improper behavior on the part of airport employees.

"I believe that he started filming because he was treated unfairly, rudely, and in Abu Dhabi it is a rather serious criminal offense, and I believe that is why he was detained," Jonathan said.

Two men traveled through Abu Dhabi after returning from vacation in Bangkok. Jonathan said that they examined the city before returning to the airport, where they were separated, as his father was inspected twice. The detainee informed his son about his arrest. Believing that his father would be released soon, Jonathan boarded the plane and returned home.

Photographing or filming is not prohibited in public places in the UAE, unless otherwise indicated. However, it is forbidden to take or photograph strategic important and military installations, for example, for security reasons. Taking photographs at airport security posts is prohibited in many countries.
