The most expensive painting by Leonardo da Vinci will be exhibited in the Louvre Abu Dhabi

Leonardo da Vinci’s Savior of the World, sold at auction for a record $ 450 million, will be displayed in the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

The Savior of the World, a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, recently sold at Christie's in New York for a record $ 450 million, goes to the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

This became known from the museum’s Twitter account, where the news was announced in Arabic, English and French.

The Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi, the first museum that bears the name of the Louvre outside France, was declared "the first universal museum in the Arab world."

The announcement partially sheds light on the mystery of the sale of paintings in November. Auction house Christie's refused to divulge the name of the buyer. Previously, the painting belonged to the family trust of Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev.

The previous auction record belonged to the work of Pablo Picasso, sold in 2015 for $ 179.4 million also in New York.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi opened in November with 600 pieces of art on display. In accordance with the 30-year agreement, France provides expertise, works of art and organizes exhibitions in exchange for one billion euros.

The Savior of the World was on display in 2011 at the National Gallery in London. From 1958 to 2005, the picture was considered lost.
