Dubai is once again recognized as the most expensive city for expatriates in the Gulf region, according to a study by the American consulting group Mercer. In the global classification, Dubai took the twentieth place.

This year, Dubai managed to rise by as many as 32 points, leaving the 52nd position in 2008 and gaining a foothold in the overall ranking of 143 cities in twentieth position this year. In the region as a whole, Dubai continues to be the most expensive city for expatriates for the third year in a row.

Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, this time took the 26th line of the global standings, leaving last year's position at 65th line, even more progress in raising the cost of living for newcomers. However, similar dynamics was shown by all the cities of the Persian Gulf region that were included in the rating. The capital of Kuwait, Kuwait, has moved from line 94 to line 77. The capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Manama, rose from 112th to 82nd position. This year, the world leader also changed - Tokyo defeated Moscow, which went to third place, losing to Osaka silver.

The Mercer Group estimates the cost of living for expatriates based on a comparison of consumer behavior and the cost of 200 basic goods and services for each city. New York is always taken as the basis.
