In the UAE, the father of the murdered boy did not accept “hard-earned money” from the criminal’s family

Obaida Al-Akbawawi's father from the United Arab Emirates met with the family of his son’s killer, but did not accept “hard-earned money”.

The father of eight-year-old Obaid Al-Akbawawi, raped and murdered by a man of Jordanian descent in May last year, refused to accept 600 thousand dirhams ($ 163 thousand) as “hard-earned money” from the murderer’s family.

According to Ibrahim Al-Akbawai, some people think that he is waiting for the “right” price in compensation for the blood of his son, which Nedal Issa Abdullah shed.

"But I won’t exchange my son’s blood for any money in the world, so I refused the check offered by the killer’s family and tore it apart," Ibrahim said.

The meeting of Ibrahim and the murderer’s family took place on Saturday in the city of Al-Zarqah in Jordan. A delegation of representatives of the family, elders and authority figures gathered there. The purpose of the meeting was to prevent retaliation for the crime. Representatives of both families signed an agreement that excludes further killings from revenge.

Obaid was abducted by Abdullah on May 20, 2016. His body was discovered two days later under a tree next to Academic City Road in Al Warqa.

50-year-old Abdullah was sentenced to death. The sentence was executed at 8 am on November 23 of this year. The death sentence in the UAE is carried out by execution.

Ibrahim Al-Akbawai said that Abdullah asked for forgiveness before his death.

"I told the Attorney General of Dubai that I would never forgive him," Ibrahim said.
