Yuri Abramovich, they say that you more like performing in Russia. In what mood did you arrive in Emirats?

In Russia there is a special feeling of missionary work. Especially when you come to the cities where they have been waiting for you for a long time. Your audience meets you, and you are yours to them: we are one. However, I came to the Emirates, and we speak Russian. Is there any difference? Anywhere in the world for a Russian listener I speak with pleasure.

How was the program tailored to the specifics of the Arab region?

I would compare it with a broad spectrum antibiotic. Not knowing the specifics of the Arab public, we included in the program both Russian, Soviet and German classics with an Arabic bias - for example, oriental plays by Robert Schumann. So someone should have liked her.

How could you describe your musical journeys?

In my musical life I went through many stages. It included The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, and American jazz rock. I grew up omnivorous. Then came the viola, which has a huge repertoire, but a small number of masterpieces. Therefore, I very often have to turn to a variety of styles and genres. We play classics, new classics, works of our time, a lot of romance. The biggest creative task is to be able to switch, understand the specific features in each style.

Do you have an author's approach to reading the score?

It is necessary to be able to read the author’s message from scratch. It’s as if you are composing your own works. There are direct author's hints - for example, dynamics, articulation of notes, sound state and mood. It is important to feel and know the history of a musical work, the atmosphere in which it was created - the spirit of Salzburg, where Mozart created, or Genoa, where Paganini lived. All this is delayed at the subconscious level. You can not do without professional knowledge, skill acquired in the conservatory. And you need to be bolder, especially with age ...

Are there any works with which you have a special relationship?

There are works that I dreamed of performing since my youth. For example, the piano concert of Sergei Rachmaninoff - his hands never reached him. Or the second concert of Johannes Brahms. But I always dreamed of playing Mozart's Requiem or P.I. Sixth Symphony. Tchaikovsky - and everything came true, I conducted them many times. I have a special attitude to those things that were written for me by Alfred Schnittke, Sofia Gubaidulina, Alexander Tchaikovsky. Not only me, but also my colleagues in different countries perform these works.
